I recently acquired an original book of ukiyo-e prints surrounded by calligraphy which tells the story of a ghost cat. This was illustrated by Kunisada and printed on mulberry paper in 1862. Ehon are an underappreciated form of ukiyo-e done by famous artists which still sell for very reasonable prices and unfortunately are mostly being purchased by art dealers who take the books apart and sell individual pages at a profit. The New York Public Library has a great show of ehon from October 2006 until 4 February 2007. http://travel2.nytimes.com/2006/10/21/arts/design/21ehon.html
