Noguni Sokan (which means the ship's captain from Noguni Ward - after 400 years Okinawans have forgotten his name) brought the sweet potato to Okinawa from China. Kadena Town celebrated his 400th anniversary in September 2005. His tomb is at the Kadena Marina.
