Veterans of WWII are dying at the rate of 1500 a day now, and soon there will be no more heroes of this conflict left alive to tell their tale to younger Americans. Those of us who served a year in Viet Nam or 15 months in Afghanistan or Iraq might reflect on the fact thjat WWII vets like Mr. Clark served for the duration. He saw both the first and last battles of the war, at Pearl Harbor and Okinawa, and relates his story of almost unimaginable carnage with clarity and dignity. The only time he displays a hint of emotion is at the end, when he reports that he never received any medals or written commendation for his heroism. The Navy's official battle report of the USS Ward is at http://www.scribd.com/doc/23615071/Battle-Report-of-the-USS-Aaron-Ward
